Yes, colleges have their own system for evaluating your GPA. Some will recalculate it using their own scale; others will look at it just the way it is. The important thing to remember is that colleges don't just look at your GPA by itself; they look at your ENTIRE TRANSCRIPT as a whole: the classes you've taken, the grades you've received, your class rank, etc.
ReplyDeleteHere you can calculate your college gpa through this Calculate My GPA College.Keep in mind that high schools use many different grading scales. Some use a 4.0 scale; some use a 5.0 scale; others use a 100 point scale. Some schools weight AP and honors classes; others don't. And some schools grade easier than others. A 4.0 might be phenomenal at one school, but only average at another. Colleges understand that, which is why your GPA by itself doesn't really tell them anything. They evaluate your transcript in the context of your school, using the High School Profile that your counselor sends them. The Profile lists the details about your school: the grading scale used, the number of advanced classes offered, the percentage of students who take advanced classes, percentage of students who go on to college, and which colleges recent graduates have attended, average SAT scores, and so on. This helps the college see how you have done compared to other students at your school and how much you have taken advantage of the opportunites you've been offered.
